Jim Osman, ABC TV 15 Investigative Reporter. Osman has appeared
on the ABC News program "PrimeTime Thursday." In 2004, Osman won three
Emmys for investigative reporting and writing and received two prestigious

12/01/2004: Free Annual Credit
Reports
By federal law, U.S. residents of western states can obtain a free
annual credit report starting December 1 at this Web site,
www.annualcreditreport.com, or by telephone at 1-877-322-8228 or by mail.
The Web site is sponsored by Experian, Equifax, and Transunion, the
consumer credit reporting companies. Midwest states residents can get
reports beginning March 1, 2005. Southern states on June 1, 2005.
Eastern states and U.S. territories on September 1, 2005. You should
review your credit reports at least once a year to look for any errors,
which might be symptoms of identity theft.

09/14/2004: China Executes Perpetrators of Fraud
China executed four people, including employees of two of its Big Four
state banks, for fraud totaling $15 million, the Xinhua state news agency
said Tuesday, amidst a high-profile campaign against financial crime. The
precise number of people executed in China is a secret. Reports range from
5,000 to 10,000 a year, many for murder, but also for corruption and
crimes as minor as bottom-pinching. Legal experts have called for a "kill
fewer, kill carefully" policy for non-violent crimes.

College students may join the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners as
a
Student Associate for only $25 in the US. This includes a subscription
to FRAUD Magazine and the Fraud Examiners Manual on CD and full access to
other membership resources. College students are encouraged to
become acquainted with fraud examination because they will be tomorrow's
leaders. To qualify for this status you must provide proof of enrollment
in a university.
Associate dues for non-students are $95 in the US. For non-members,
the subscription rate for FRAUD Magazine is $55 and the price for the
Fraud Examiners Manual is $139. Other rates apply outside the US.

08/23/2004 New Fraud Course at ASU West

The ASU West School of
Management is offering a new fraud examination course during the Fall
2004 semester (W ACC 494 Fraud Accounting, Schedule Line Number 51078).
Fraud Accounting is an entry-level survey course designed to introduce the
student to the basic concepts of fraud prevention and detection. The
course will be taught using a variety of resources including guest
speakers, video resources, and in-class assignments. Barbara J. Muller, CPA and Senior Lecturer, is
teaching the course. Larry C. Adams, CPA, CFE, CIA, CISA will be
the guest lecturer
on 08/30/2004 and 09/27/2004. The class
meets August 23 through December 13 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00pm
to 6:15pm in room 201 of the Sands Building. The textbook is "Fraud Examination" by Dr. W. Steve
Albrecht, CFE, CPA (July 2002 edition, $109). Resident tuition is $621 for the 3 credit hour
