Fighting Fraud: Catching the Crooks Who Cook the Books
A half-day seminar presented by the American Society of Women Accountants, Phoenix Chapter.
Guest speakers include Joyce Barden, CPA, Kathleen Barney, and Larry C. Adams, CPA, CFE, CIA, CISA. Accounting fraud has collapsed large corporations such as WorldCom and others into bankruptcy, sent former executives to jail, and led to the demise of major auditing firms like Arthur Andersen. As a result of these publicized events, an ethics revolution has taken hold in the business world, and accounting rules have been strengthened. Fraud can affect even the smallest of businesses. Fraudulent schemes can be extremely simple to extraordinarily complex. What can we learn to help our clients avoid these perils? How do we detect and fight fraud? Can we predict potential security weaknesses? How does a company design adequate internal controls to protect its assets? How do you investigate the suspected misappropriation of funds? What are the auditor’s responsibilities?  Registration 8 a.m. Continental breakfast. Seminar 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (4 hours CPE) DeVry University, 2149 West Dunlap Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona. Cost $50. Proceeds will be used to benefit students. For reservations, contact Judy Harding at Judycpa@extremezone.com or phone 602-973-5754.
